You can use the application Font Book that comes with your Mac (you find it in Applications). ![]() By disabling some of the extra fonts we can reduce the time applications have to spend on managing fonts. As an example a quick scan of this computer shows that there are over 450 fonts installed, but typically only 20-30 are ever used. After this, every time you want to change the font the application has to load these previews and display them to you, which in Microsoft Word can takes up to five seconds from the clicking the font menu until it actually displays the font list.īy disabling unnecessary fonts you can speed up applications quite significantly. For example, every time Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word or QuarkXPress starts, the application scans your fonts and builds a preview for you. While it may seem like a minor thing it can actually have a big impact on how fast and responsive applications are. ![]() One often-overlooked tweak is to clear out the font caches and trim the number of fonts you have installed on your Mac. ![]() ![]() Both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina Display are SSD-only, and the same will be true for the coming Mac Pro. The iMac is an unusual member of Apple’s Mac lineup in that it is one of the only systems to ship with a HDD by default. However, shooting for bearable is aiming too low in my opinion. OS X continues to do a great job caching frequently used data in main memory, something the iMac has plenty of in its default 8GB configuration, so the HDD-only option does quickly become bearable. It’s been quite a while since I’ve forced myself to use a system with only a HDD, and going back to one now just reaffirms what I’ve been thinking for a while: HDD-only systems have been killing the PC industry for a while now. By default all of the iMacs come with a 2.5" or 3.5” (21.5/27" iMac) mechanical hard drive. ![]() ![]() Tend to your crops and animals together in Stardew Valley. This workload can be lessened, however, by bringing a friend on board for co-op. There’s a lot of grinding involved in Stardew Valley, which often sees players sinking hundreds of hours into perfecting their farms. It’s so much more than a pixelated RPG that lets you harvest crops and name your animals, though, and will have you restoring life to the entire town one step at a time. I’m going to be excluding games that are massively multiplayer, and those that include PvE and PvP multiplayer elements. That being said, the criteria for this list is simple: it must be a game that is co-op focused or has a solid co-op campaign. Massively multiplayer games can certainly have the same effect, however, there’s something about being able to curl up on the sofa with a buddy and blast through a couch co-op run of Borderlands that makes co-op games privy to hosting much more heart-warming memories than, I hate to say it, my hundreds of hours with Valorant and Dead by Daylight. However, gaming is also one of the best activities for connecting with those close to you, and in some cases, it can make or break a friendship (a few of my own friendships have been very much tried and tested by It Takes Two).Ĭo-op games are an absolute treasure because of this. It has meant whenever logging into an online account with a username and password, a 6-8 digit code was also needed to login successfully. Not so for me, because my password is very strong and I’ve had 2FA (Two factor authentication) setup for the majority of my accounts including LastPass. If this password was compromised it would be the end of the world for some people. This could be seen as a major con if ones password was not strong enough. The fact is LastPass has a master password that protects everything. Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a security system that requires more than one method of authentication from independent categories of credentials to verify the user’s identity for a login. What does multi-factor authentication mean? I recently purchased the Yubikey, which compliments this awesome password manager and other online websites.
